Ya-Ka-May

Anti-Records/Edel

»Friends of Science« opens the album in most awakening sharp & smart beat possible. Funky you call it, but much more too as the Rebirth Brass Band cooks the second track and bayou-march the whole song. Call it music, it’ll be fine. Put down and dance along. »Double It« follows as the pusher we wanted to hear and shake knees to (features Big Freedia, while you can see already Irma Thomas coming from far to lift the fourth track. It’s easy: All is in here – funk, soul, blues, jazz, hard and heavy, soft and smooth, silk and leather. Some productions are sometimes trying to combine too many people without a direction to go, and here it’s much more people but altogether raising hands, voices and music to the sky. Listen to it once at least.
