»Minitel« is that unique French communication technology which is still in use actually and was introduced to us long before internet came to our houses (the 80s), but as often with French ideas, didn’t make it anywhere else. Therefore »Minitel Rose« stand for the sex pages and other horny rendezvous which reached a sort of cult fantasy in those years. So a French band (heavy accent traces left on English lyrics), bubble-gum-electro-pop the country has been known for, referring sometimes to other similarly successful bands of today but openly cut-paste-ing gross musical clichés (Supertramp’s electric piano, Joe Jackson’s xylophones etc ?? on and on). I don’t know how you’d react to it, it’s pretty successful by its own standards (though miles away from e. g. the Scissors Sisters) but for me it’s extremely soaked in French kitsch.
