Actual jazz or today’s path in instrumental post jazz music is always a particular experience. From the heavy past to the yet unknown melting, new voices and other directions. Marius Neset is a, no question, very skilled tenor saxophone player presenting here his own quartet (featuring the amazing Django Bates on keyboards, when not Matthew Bourne on other live occasions). The music consists of repeated motives, fast lines (pretty jazz-rocky) and else grooves unfortunately all heard before in various contexts. A bit of empty gestures to me, though I fully assume this area to be very narrow today… we’ll see.
