»Like Back In The Days«

Saxophone, organ and drums. »Like Back In The Days« is indeed a proper expression and a clear intention for this album. Everything takes you back to the great organ combos, everything but the little something else that made this music so funky, sweaty, tight somehow. If these three musicians are without any question all really good, the result and effort itself seems slightly pointless after decades of original recordings, permamently reissued, compiled and thrown onto the market. Not quite as astonishing as Gene Ammons, Willis Jackson, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy Smith, Wild Bill Davis, Milt Buckner, Larry Young or Eddy Louiss (and forgive me the other 30 stars forgotten here). Pleasant, well crafted but maybe too late?
