Yello has a sound and that’s already quite a lot. It also seems to be clearly going somewhere without any complex. What should we call it, electro lounge? Most of the tracks are bright, both in rhythms and grooves, really well produced for its purpose and particularly well cuted for clubs, bars or airplay. If you carefully listen to it you’ll notice a serious attention paid to the mixes and the beats, quite a lot happening without making you feel like you should permanently check what’s going on. It is indeed some sort of muzak but of high quality. A sound that makes you feel good in a bar at happy hour and for a reasonable short amount of time. The more electro aspects of the record are probably the best, the other things getting in Moby’s way are often of less interest. Let’s go for Yello.
