WE BEAR THE LIGHT OF THE EARTH: XENAKIS BIRTHDAY PARTY

Zum 100. Geburtstag des Komponisten Iannis Xenakis kuratiert der Musiker, Komponist und Leiter des Ensembles zeitkratzer, Reinhold Friedl, ein großes Fest: Xenakis inspiriert bis heute. Der Nachmittag beginnt mit Workshops und Vorträgen im Belvedere, Haus 21. Bereits die Wahl des Ortes ist eine Hommage an den einflussreichen Komponisten und Architekten, der Verräumlichungskonzepte für Musik und Immersion ins Zentrum seines Schaffens stellte. Der ausgewiesene Xenakis-Experte Friedl lädt zum Parkour durch eine weite Klangwelt ein – ausufernd, übergriffig, lautstark, immersiv, multimedial, berauschend: ein raumbezogenes Ritual auf der Suche, wo Xenakis Ideen und Weltoffenheit heute zu verorten sind. Das musikalische Programm umfasst die elektroakustischen Werke des großen Klang-Arrangeurs, inkludiert Xenakis’ Inspirationsquellen wie japanische Biwa-Musik oder afrikanische Perkussion, und unterstreicht die zeitgenössische Relevanz seiner Innovationen und Themen mit experimentellen Club-Sounds, Chorkaskaden, Noise-Musik, avanciertem Indie-Rock, heterophoner DJ-Kunst und Field-Recordings. Zum Sonnenaufgang erklingt das Meisterwerk Persepolis: „Wir tragen das Licht der Erde“. Bäm!

Lee Ranaldo
Lee Mark Ranaldo is an American musician, singer-songwriter, guitarist, writer, visual artist and record producer, best known as a co-founder of the alternative rock band Sonic Youth, and band-member from their debut in 1981 thru 2011 when activities ceased. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Ranaldo at number 33 on its „Greatest Guitarists of All Time“ list.
Puce Mary
Puce Mary is the solo moniker of Copenhagen based sound artist Frederikke Hoffmeier. Founded in 2010, the project has since then explored the fields of industrial noise and experimental music with a vast amount of releases on labels as Posh Isolation, iDEAL Recordings and PAN.The performances and releases portrays her work methods to be many and diverse from dark sound collages and textured noise, to straight forward industrial music.
DJ DIaki
DIaki’s hard thumping live electro balani show is the quintessential African rave sound, the one that can wake even the dead, drawing comparisons to shangaan, singeli and acholitronix as well as drum n bass and footwork. DJ DIaki’s style of balani show is a live performance on laptop, mic and drum machines. With influences of coupe decale and soukous, DIaki delivers an atomic blend of traditional balani electrified with all the West African candence! DIaki has perfected his craft over the last 30 years, and risen to fame after his Boiler room set at Nyege Nyege festival 2019 where legendary DJ Marcelle called him “The discovery of the Century”.
Junko Ueda
Junko Ueda (born in Tokyo, Japan) is Japanese singer and satsuma-biwa player, presenting Japanese traditional biwa epic story telling and shomyo Buddhist chant. Ueda studied satsuma-biwa epic story telling with the famous Kinshi Tsuruta (Satsuma-Biwa Tsuruta-style) and Buddhist shomyo chant with Kôshin Ebihara (Tendai school). She studied composition (under Reiko Arima, Jôji Yuasa, Sei Ikeno) at the Tokyo College of Music. Contributing for new compositions and improvisation, Junko Ueda has been working with composers, e.g. Jean-Claude Eloy, Akemi Naito, Keiko Harada and performing with e.g. cellist Yo-Yo Ma, viola da gamba player Jordi Savall. Also, she is specialized to perform the pieces for biwa of Japanese composer Tôru Takemitsu.
