UJ BALA / RIO OBSKUR / MALTASH

6. Oktober 2023, 21:00

Hungarian artist Gabor Kovács has been using the Új Bála handle for his disjointed electronic experiments which could be described as baffling psychedelic techno. A fixture of the Budapest underground, he’s quickly making strides in his adoptive Brussels with his distorted synth manglings. Releases on Altered States Tapes, Czaszka Rec., Lost Dogs Entertainment, Dalmata Daniel and even KRAAK’s KRUT imprint give much material to dig through, always unparalleled by the live experience itself which invariably elicit questionable dance moves from all who are present.
RIO OBSKUR ~~ Experimental Cold Wave

If Coldwave was a creature, it would probably called RIO OBSKUR. But maybe Coldwave is the creature and RIO OBSKUR the sound? No matter how you look at it, both would be wearing velvet gloves.
Vienna based artist Marion Ludwig revives her love for Wave Sound with her latest project RIO OBSKUR. The result: experimental Coldwave that makes use of performative elements. One woman. All selfmade. Two EPs in two months, two more in the making.
Maltash (Arabic: ملطش, “wicked”) is a Lebanese experimentalist, who is steadily remodelling his musical influences: Drawing from Arabic Wedding Music, Byzantine Music of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Islamic Call to Prayer and various opposite tonal languages, such as music from the Lebanese-Syrian singer George Wassouf and Ambient Drone Metal duo The Angelic Process.
An attempt to deconstruct Metal, Industrial, Experimental Hip Hop, Sludge and Tarab at the same time: With his latest album ‚Barki‘, Maltash aspires to establish ‚Post-Tarab‘ as a musical genre.
