Jü + Soda & Gomorra

14. September 2018, 20:00

Budapest’s finest experimental metal-jazz trio is featured on the label Rare Noise Records from London, alongside David Torn, Eraldo Bernocchi, Eivind Aarset, Nels Cline, David Fiuczynski, Buckethead, Bill Frisell, Cuong Vu, Bobby Previtte, Jamie Saft, Merzbow, Balazs Pandi, and Joe Morris.

Their initial release „JÜ Meets Møster“ was warmly received and likened to Scorch Trio or Many Arms, and as they are sharing the label with bands instantly recognized for their compact intensity, one could be surprised by their loose blend of blues-rock with jazz-fusionand experimental elements, rooted in Afro/Brasilian rhythms. Historically reinterpreting the late 60s early 70s heritage of creative music, JÜ’s main objective is to reach an edgier side of the great sub-cultural fusion, as influenced by John Zorn’s Naked City, Moonchild or Last Exit. It is no coincidence that alongside electric guitar, bass and drums, one easily hears kalimbas, bass-ukulele and so forth in JÜ’s rich tapestry.

Bands members Adam Meszaros on electric guitar, Erno Hock on e-bassguitar and Andras Halmos on drums are accomplished players rooted in dozens of Hungarian groups, and have played with John Zorn, Eugene Chadbourne, Veronika Harcsa, Charles Gayle, Chris Potter, William Parker, Szilard Mezei, Hamid Drake, Pamelia Kurstyn and Mikolaj Trzaska. On „Jü meets Møster“, their debut album, (RareNoise Records) from November 2014, the band invited Norwegian saxophonist Kjetil Møster (Ultralyd, Datarock, Royksopp, The End). Their first trio effort and most ambitiously produced LP to date, „Summa“; followed in 2017.
