2017 zuerst als Solo Projekt von Philip Paulus gegründet, gehört mittlerweile auch Michael Zagorec zur fixen Kernbesetzung von The Velvet Swing. Beide verbindet dabei von Anfang an eine große Liebe zum Psychedelic Rock zwischen dessen klassischen Surf- & Garagen-Vorstufen sowie deren modernen Adaptionen (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels). Dabei entsteht aus einer Handvoll Akkorden, wenig Progression und spärlicher Instrumentalisierung eine zeitlose Coolness, die jeglichen Firlefanz bewusst weglässt. Diese Attitude durchzieht auch die Tonträger von The Velvet Swing (3 EPs & 1 LP), die voll von psychedelischen Perlen im klassischen Drei-Minuten-Format sind. Psychedelic Rock als Nichteinverstandensein mit der Wirklichkeit, wo sich coole Filme nicht nur angeschaut werden wollen, sondern wo in ihnen gelebt werden will. Das reicht doch eigentlich schon.
